The three main types of drug treatments used to help smoking cessation are:
. Champix
. Zyban
. Nicotine Replacement Therapy(NRT)
Champix (Varenicline) is a drug when taken stimulates the brain to release the chemical dopamine reducing restlessness, irritability and low mood.
The most common side effects of the drug are nausea(30%), flatulence(gas), constipation, abnormal dreams, difficulty sleeping and headache. The British Research agency has linked the drug to heart attack and strokes and Pfizer which manufactures the drug have warned that some users have suffered depression, suicidal thoughts or behaviour and have attempted suicide.
Zyban (bupropion) works in a similar way to champix. First used as an anti-depressant it does not replace nicotine in the body but works in a similar way to it releasing chemicals in the brain reducing restlessness, irritability and low mood.
The most common side effects of the drug are anxiety, headache, insomnia and dry mouth. Seizures can also be a side effect of Zyban and are most likely to occur in people who have a seizure disorder or who have had a head injury. Alcohol can increase the risk of having a seizure and should be avoided when taking Zyban. It should also not be taken if you have an eating disorder, are using a second form of bupropion, or if you have suddenly stopped using alcohol or sedatives.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy(NRT) works by simply replacing the nicotine your body no longer gets when you quit smoking.
NRT comes in the following forms: patches, gum, tablets, lozenges or inhaler.
The most common side effects of this form of treatment are sleep difficulties, abnormal dreaming, skin reactions, jaw pain and nose irritation.
Testimonials

"On April 29th 2010, I attended a Quit Smoking Session with Irish Hypnosis in Portlaoise. The session was so relaxed and controlled by a very professional therapist. As a result I am totally smoke free kicking a 40 a day habit. Health wise and financially I'm in a much better place. I would definitely recommend Irish Hypnosis to anybody trying to succeed where they have failed in the part"

After 15 years of smoking at least 20 a day I finally quit using Hypnosis. I can't believe it, I don't even want a cigarette and I know I never will. You made it so easy, I'm delighted and so is my aunt who went to see you about 2 months later. I found Hypnosis enjoyable and I love the CD you gave me, I still listen to it every night, it helps me sleep. Thank you.
Elisabeth Farrell, Santry.

Jimmy Ryan, Dundalk

"Hypnosis was a last option for me to give up smoking. I had tried everything and nothing worked but hypnosis worked straight away. I knew the moment that I walked out that I would never smoke again. It has only been one month and I already have so much more energy and feel healthier. I would recommend this to anyone as its a life changing experience"
