Minimizing the most Common Side Effects of Quitting Smoking
The most common side effects a person experiences in the first few days after quitting are generally:
· A drop in blood sugar levels
· Mood Swings/Irritability
· Feeling extra hungry
· Cravings
· Sleep disturbance
It’s not everyone who experiences these symptoms, but a lot of people experience some or all of these, and it’s these feelings that generally contribute to a person giving in and starting to smoke again.
There are ways to minimize these symptoms.
As blood sugar levels drop dramatically in the first few days of quitting, due to fact that cigarettes cause the body to release it’s own stores of sugar and fat by a drug type interaction, it is always a good idea to replace sugar levels by drinking some fruit juice or eating 3 or 4 pieces of fresh fruit per day.
Feeling moody or irritable is quite common, as nicotine leaves your body, so it’s always a good idea to do something pleasant, like go for a walk, or some other exercise to keep the mind focussed on the pleasures of life.
Food craving is experienced by some people, because food tastes better when you quit, and nicotine is no longer acting as an appetite suppressant, so by being aware of this, always be prepared, by having a supply of healthy snacks, such as fresh fruit, fruit juice, vegetables.
As nicotine leaves the body, the craving for a cigarette, can feel overwhelming, so by thinking of the positive benefits of quitting, like improved health, by keeping busy, and looking after your body with proper food and drinking plenty of water or taking exercise, this craving eases quicker than expected.
A person can notice sleep disturbance as nicotine leaves the body. This is only temporary and by listening to some nice calming music before bedtime or having a relaxing soak in the bath, the sleep pattern re-adjusts very quickly.

"On April 29th 2010, I attended a Quit Smoking Session with Irish Hypnosis in Portlaoise. The session was so relaxed and controlled by a very professional therapist. As a result I am totally smoke free kicking a 40 a day habit. Health wise and financially I'm in a much better place. I would definitely recommend Irish Hypnosis to anybody trying to succeed where they have failed in the part"

After 15 years of smoking at least 20 a day I finally quit using Hypnosis. I can't believe it, I don't even want a cigarette and I know I never will. You made it so easy, I'm delighted and so is my aunt who went to see you about 2 months later. I found Hypnosis enjoyable and I love the CD you gave me, I still listen to it every night, it helps me sleep. Thank you.

"Hypnosis was a last option for me to give up smoking. I had tried everything and nothing worked but hypnosis worked straight away. I knew the moment that I walked out that I would never smoke again. It has only been one month and I already have so much more energy and feel healthier. I would recommend this to anyone as its a life changing experience"
